SUSTAINABILITY IS ONE OF OUR STUDIO'S CORE VALUES.

WE BELIEVE THAT SUSTAINABLE DESIGN IS SIMPLY RESPONSIBLE DESIGN.

Jennifer has long been a champion of sustainability.

She sat on The Sustainability Project board in Santa Barbara and has taught courses such as 'How to Party like an Eco-Rockstar'.  She became a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional in 2005 and used this accreditation to see a number of projects successfully through the LEED process.

Jennifer was the Sustainable Projects Leader at her former firm and is an instructor at UC Berkeley Extension where she taught courses such as 'LEED + Green Rating Systems for Interior Designers' and 'Sustainable Interiors'.

Her passion for responsible design touches every project that comes through our studio.

Below you will find just a handful of our core design values:

PLACE + COMMUNITY

Site selection is an important element to any business or home.  Appropriate site selection can create a sense of place + connection to the local community.  We can assist you in evaluating the various environmental factors including site access to alternative transportation, renewable energy opportunities, water catchment + native landscaping, daylighting + many other components.

BUILDING REUSE

Utilizing an existing building or space, rather than building new, is always our first priority.  Reusing existing space reduces energy, saves resources and can often times save you money.  It also provides the opportunity to tell a story about the building!

ENERGY + WATER EFFICIENCY

By designing intelligently, we can create building environments that have little, or even no, impact on our energy + water resources.   Water + energy reduction strategies are no-brainers with so many options out there that allow us to reduce consumption (and save you money).  We evaluate ways to implement daylighting strategies, passive heating + cooling opportunities, water reduction + reuse strategies, renewable energy options, + other options that make sense for your specific project.

MATERIALS + HEALTH

We take a great deal of care when specifying materials.  Material selection impacts on our health, resources + economies.   We review material options with the following in mind including extraction + manufacturing location, extraction impacts, resource options, beauty, recycled content, reuse options, off-gassing levels, general toxicity information, social equity + durability.
